This Privacy Policy explains how Teleship Limited and its affiliates (“Teleship”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), the operator of duties-taxes.com (the “Platform”), collects, uses, and shares your personal data when you use the Platform to pay import duties and taxes on a parcel shipment addressed to you.
This Privacy Policy applies to all consignees who use the Platform, including those accessing it through a branded subdomain. Regardless of branding, Teleship Limited and its affiliates are the data controllers responsible for the personal data processed through the Platform.
By using the Platform, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy should be read together with our Terms of Service.
1. Who We Are
Teleship Limited and its affiliates are limited liability companies and entities incorporated in England and Wales (Company Registration number: 15361774), with their principal place of business at 69 Church Way, North Shields, NE29 0AE, United Kingdom.
We are subject to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) for California residents, and applicable US federal privacy laws. Where we offer services to individuals in the European Union or United Kingdom, we also comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR respectively.
We do not sell goods. We are a payment facilitation platform for import duty and tax collection only.
2. What Personal Data We Collect
We collect only the personal data necessary to provide the duty and tax payment service for your specific shipment. This includes:
2.1 Data You Provide
- Payment information: card number, expiry date, and CVV (processed by our payment provider; we do not store full card details);
- Billing name and billing address;
- Email address (for payment confirmation and service communications).
2.2 Data Provided by the Merchant or Carrier
To present the correct duty and tax amount for your shipment, the merchant or carrier provides us with:
- Your full name and delivery address;
- Your phone number and/or email address (for shipment communications and duty collection contact);
- Shipment details including declared value, product description, Harmonized Tariff code, country of origin, and carrier tracking reference.
2.3 Data Collected Automatically
When you access the Platform, we may collect:
- IP address and approximate location;
- Browser type, device type, and operating system;
- Session and interaction data (pages visited, time on page);
- Cookie data (see Section 7).
3. How We Use Your Personal Data
We use your personal data for the following purposes:
- To present the import duties and taxes assessed on your specific shipment;
- To process your payment and issue a payment confirmation;
- To remit collected duties and taxes to the appointed customs broker or carrier for clearance of your shipment;
- To contact you about your payment or shipment, including to resolve payment issues or delivery exceptions;
- To share required shipment and payment data with customs authorities and government agencies for customs clearance purposes;
- To comply with applicable legal and regulatory obligations;
- To detect and prevent fraud and unauthorized use of the Platform;
- To operate, maintain, and improve the Platform.
We do not use your personal data for marketing or promotional communications. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
4. Legal Basis for Processing (EU/UK Consignees)
Where EU GDPR or UK GDPR applies to your use of the Platform, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract: processing necessary to deliver the duty payment service you have requested (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR);
- Legal obligation: processing required to comply with customs, tax, and regulatory laws in origin, transit, and destination countries (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR);
- Legitimate interests: processing to prevent fraud, maintain platform security, and improve our services, where these interests are not overridden by your rights (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
5. Who We Share Your Data With
We share your personal data only as necessary to provide the Services or comply with legal obligations. Recipients include:
5.1 Payment Processors
All payment processing on the Platform is performed by PCI DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. Payment Processors receives your payment card details directly and processes your transaction; Teleship does not have access or store your full card number, CVV, or other sensitive payment credentials. Payment processors are subject to their own Privacy Policies. By making a payment on the Platform, you are also subject to their terms of service. Teleship acts as a limited collection agent directing the application of collected funds; it does not hold, transmit, or store funds on your behalf and is not a licensed money transmitter.
5.2 Customs Brokers and Carriers
We share shipment data and, where required, your contact information with the licensed customs broker and/or carrier appointed to clear and deliver your shipment. This sharing is necessary for customs clearance, duty settlement, and delivery coordination.
5.3 Customs Authorities and Government Bodies
We may be required by law to share shipment data and consignee information with customs authorities, border agencies, and other government bodies in the origin, transit, or destination country for customs clearance, regulatory inspection, and duty assessment purposes.
5.4 Merchants and Logistics Partners
We may share payment confirmation and shipment status information with the merchant who sold you the goods and their logistics partners, to support order fulfillment and delivery tracking.
5.5 Technology and Service Providers
We use third-party technology providers for platform hosting, analytics, fraud detection, and operational support. These providers process data only on our instructions and are contractually bound to protect your information.
5.6 Branded Subdomain Partners
Where you access the Platform through a branded subdomain, the partner whose branding is displayed may receive aggregated, non-identifiable reporting on payment volumes and service performance. They do not receive your personal data except as necessary for the logistics and delivery services they provide in connection with your shipment.
5.7 Legal and Regulatory Disclosure
We may disclose your personal data to law enforcement, regulators, or courts where required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Teleship, its users, or others.
6. International Data Transfers
As a cross-border logistics platform, the nature of our Services requires that shipment and consignee data be shared with parties in multiple jurisdictions, including the origin, transit, and destination countries of your shipment. This may include countries outside the United States, European Union, or United Kingdom.
Where we transfer personal data from the EU or UK to countries not recognized as providing an adequate level of data protection, we use appropriate safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission or UK Information Commissioner, as applicable.
For customs authorities and government bodies, data sharing is required by law and falls within recognized legal exemptions under applicable data protection frameworks.
7. Cookies
The Platform uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to support platform functionality, security, and analytics. These may include:
- Essential cookies: required for the Platform to function (for example, session management and fraud prevention);
- Analytics cookies: used to understand how users interact with the Platform to help us improve it.
We do not use advertising or marketing cookies on the Platform. You can control cookie settings through your browser, but disabling essential cookies may affect your ability to complete a payment.
8. Data Retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, or as required by applicable law. Specifically:
- Payment transaction records are retained for a minimum of 7 years to comply with financial recordkeeping and tax obligations;
- Shipment and customs data may be retained for longer periods where required by customs or import regulations in relevant jurisdictions;
- Technical and usage data is retained for up to 24 months for security and platform improvement purposes.
Once retention periods expire, data is securely deleted or anonymized.
9. Your Rights
9.1 California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, and share about you;
- Access a copy of your personal information;
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information;
- Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal exceptions;
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (note: we do not sell personal information);
- Limit the use and disclosure of sensitive personal information;
- Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.

- Erase your personal data (right to be forgotten), subject to legal exceptions;
- Restrict processing of your personal data in certain circumstances;
- Data portability (receive your data in a structured, commonly used format);
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

9.3 All Users
Regardless of your location, you may contact us at any time at privacy@duties-taxes.com to raise questions or concerns about how we handle your personal data. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable law.
10. Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. All payment card data is processed in accordance with PCI DSS Level 1 standards; Teleship does not store full card details. However, no transmission over the internet or electronic storage method is completely secure.
11. Children’s Privacy
The Platform is not directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. Revised versions will be posted on the Platform with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
